Now that Nikon has disappeared to attend to her spying duties, Alice Murphy has entered my office…
Character name: Alice ‘Murph’ Murphy
Book(s) featured in: The Sulphur Diaries and upcoming sequel Pandemonium
Age/Star sign: 16 years old. Capricorn
Profession: Teenager
Qualities: Strong willed, stubborn, impetuous, selfish
Likes: My boyfriend Johnny, my best friend Cazza
Dislikes: My hometown and the people in it
1. What is your mission, or your dreams/ambitions in the book? The Sulphur Diaries opens with me living in this tiny village in the back end of Yorkshire. It’s surrounded by beautiful countryside, everyone lives long healthy lives, but me? I can’t wait to get out. Why? Well, the bit I haven’t mentioned, the bit we’re not supposed to tell outsiders, is that our village is built on an entrance to Hell, with all the perks (and the problems) that goes along with it.
2. Which is your favourite scene in the book and why? For reasons I won’t go into here, the Elders of my village wanted to keep me and Johnny apart, despite us having grown up together. Johnny figures this out and breaks the curse on me, so I’m pretty happy to finally have my boyfriend back. That was a good moment.
3. Which was the most challenging scene in the book and why? I know the novel
is classed as a horror, but was there really any need for what happened at the end? I’m sorry, but I don’t want to go into it, I can’t go through all that again…
4. After your experience in the book, how do you think you’ve grown as a person? Well, I certainly learned what not to do. Letting others take control, even if that other is an all-powerful supernatural being, is not the way to handle these kinds of situations. I’m keeping that in mind for the follow-up novel – Pandemonium – I’m going to learn from my mistakes and take charge of my life. For where I’m headed, I think this might be very important.
5. Can you give us an overview of the book? I’m in deep trouble. The police have found me covered in blood and surrounded by corpses. I, completely dazed explain that I had befriended an angel to help me escape my tiny Yorkshire village that is situated over a gate to hell. Why? Because the Harvest is coming and the love of my life is up for selection.
Alice Murphy is the creation of author, Georgina Kamsika, who admits to being a geek
and whenever she’s not writing, she’s reading or walking her two dogs in the local woods. Her partner, Andy, is very patient and supports her at all times, even when her only response is ‘shush, go away. Writing’.
There’s a giveaway of one paperback of ‘The Sulphur Diaries’, which includes a three-bookmark set. Please visit http://www.kamsika.com/
